The short answer
In the warmer months most acreage around Yarramundi and Richmond needs mowing every 2 to 4 weeks. In winter, growth slows and every 4 to 8 weeks is usually enough. The right interval for your block depends on rainfall, soil, grass type and how you use each part of the land.
Spring (September to November)
Growth picks up quickly as the days warm. This is the season most people fall behind. Getting onto a regular cut early in spring stops grass getting long, tough and slow to mow later.
Summer (December to February)
Storms and heat bring the fastest growth of the year, especially on river flats. Mow often, but keep the cut a little higher so the grass shades its own roots and holds moisture.
Autumn (March to May)
Growth eases. A cut every 3 to 5 weeks is typical, and autumn is a good time for a yard tidy-up before winter.
Winter (June to August)
Grass slows right down in the cooler months. Many blocks only need an occasional cut to keep edges and house yards tidy.
Treat each zone differently
The house yard might need a fortnightly mow while back paddocks only need a cut every month or two. Splitting the property into zones keeps it looking cared for without paying for more work than you need.
